Building software for boarding kennels was never going to be just about putting a booking diary on a screen.

A kennel is a busy, constantly moving environment. Dogs are arriving and departing. Owners are calling. Feeding instructions change. Medication needs to be recorded. Payments need chasing. Staff need to know what is happening today, tomorrow and next week.

And somewhere amongst all of that, there is a business to run.

That is the problem Connept Kennels was created to help solve.

Over the past few months, Connept has been operating in its pilot phase. That gave us the opportunity to test the platform, refine how it works and, importantly, keep focusing on what boarding kennels actually need from their software.

From 28 August 2026, Connept Kennels will move beyond pilot access and become generally available.

01

Why we started with a pilot

When you are building software around the day-to-day operation of a kennel, assumptions only get you so far.

A feature can make perfect sense on paper and still get in the way when the phone is ringing, three dogs are arriving and somebody needs to find a medication instruction immediately.

That is why we wanted Connept to spend time in a pilot phase before making it more widely available. It gave us room to look closely at the workflows that matter: creating and managing bookings, keeping owner and dog information together, handling stays, recording care information and maintaining a clear view of the financial side of the business.

The aim was not to build the longest possible feature list. It was to make the important things easier.

One connected place for the working day

One of the ideas behind Connept has remained simple from the beginning: kennel teams should not have to hunt through different systems to understand what is happening.

Bookings in one place. Owner details somewhere else. Dog information on paper. Care notes on another sheet. Payments in a spreadsheet. Each individual system might work, but together they create unnecessary admin.

Connept brings those parts of the day together.

  • A live booking calendar gives the team a clearer picture of upcoming stays, arrivals and departures.
  • Owner and dog records keep important information accessible when it is needed.
  • Stay and care information helps the team track the details that matter while a dog is boarding.
  • Finance tools provide visibility over invoices, payments and business performance.
One connected view

The goal is straightforward: bookings, owners, dogs, stays, care and finances together instead of information scattered everywhere.

What we have learned

The pilot reinforced something we believed from the start. Kennel software should not demand attention for its own sake.

The best system is not necessarily the one with the most menus, settings or features. It is the one that helps somebody get the information they need and move on with their day.

For a busy kennel team, clarity matters:

  • Who is arriving today?
  • What are this dog's feeding instructions?
  • Has this owner paid?
  • How busy are we next week?
  • What does the rest of the team need to know?

Those everyday questions continue to shape how we think about Connept. There will always be more we can build, but every addition has to earn its place by making the working day clearer, faster or easier to manage.

28 August is not the finish line

Moving beyond the pilot is an important milestone for us, but we are not treating it as the point where Connept suddenly becomes “finished”. Good operational software should keep improving.

We will continue listening to kennel teams, refining existing workflows and developing new parts of the platform as Connept grows.

Dedicated iOS and Android apps are also on the way, extending Connept beyond the desk and giving teams easier access to the information they need while working around the kennels.

Less time fighting admin. More time running the kennel and delivering great care.
